" S.elf L.ess "
sculpture - installation - couture - photography - design - ceremony
created by S. and L. in the name of Salvador Lia
Cathedral Notre-Dame, Rheims, France
CONCEPTUALIZATION
Treasure room
Inside the Archiepiscopal Palace of Tau
the Treasure room houses the royal treasures
of the Cathedral Notre-Dame as well as other
remarkable objects associated with the coronation
of the French Kings such as the Talisman of Charlemagne
the Reliquary of the Holy Thorn, the Coronation Chalice
the Reliquary of Sixte and the Reliquary of the Resurrection
Combined with the Treasure, three sculptures
framed between two pieces of glass conceptualize
Salvador Lia's creative formula: S. + L. = S.L.
INSTALLATION I
L.ARCHE DU S.IEL
translated as " S.ky’s Arch "
Banqueting Hall
Inside the biggest room of the Palace where
a banquet was held by the king right after
the coronation ceremony in the Cathedral
Fleur-de-lys tapestries merge with the floral
installation of the creators. Suspended to the
nine masts of the wooden frame with silk yarns,
ten thousand of roses and butterflies float in the air
« L.arche du S.iel » is an installation in suspension
an invitation to a sensation, an upside down
S.ail boat to travel the exhibition
INSTALLATION II
LE S.ENS DE L.AUTRE
translated as " S.ense "
Palatine Chapel
Adorned with the altar trapping ordered in 1809
by Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte for his wedding
with Marie Louise Duchess of Parma, the Palatine
Chapel still holds its medieval aspect and architecture
from the 13th century. Composed with a series of art
pieces in couture, design and sculpture, the installation
« le S.ens de L.autre » evokes a direction, an upward
motion shaped in a S.piritual dimension
COUTURE
L. ÉVATION DE S.OIE
translated as " S.elf L.ift "
As an extension of the six golden candlesticks
of the altar trapping Salvador Lia imagines
a series of six black silk tunics of seven
meters long. Facing each other on each side
of the Chapel the complementary masculine
and feminine couture creations surround two
black wooden consoles positioned at the center
DESIGN
BLACK CONSOLE
the consoles exhibited inside the Palatine Chapel
Shaped in a S.piral in front of the altar
two wooden black lacquered consoles
offer to the candlesticks and the cross
a throne in L.evitation
SCULPTURE
LE S.ENS DE LA L.UMIÈRE
translated as " S.ense L.ight "
Series of two S.culptures in bas-relief
framed between two pieces of glass
Dimensions : 50 x 70 x 5 cm
Unique art pieces created by S.L.
INSTALLATION III
S.IX DONS DE L.AUTRE EN S.OI
translated as “ S.ix gifts from one L.se to one S.elf ”
Lower room - Archiepiscopal Palace of Tau
Under the lower room’s groined vaults,
Salvador Lia positions S.ix black cubic
shaped metallic S.tructures to conceptualize
a series of gifts. The interaction between
the edifice and the S.tructures redefine
the L.ines between the Palace’s gothic
architecture and its interior S.pace
The installation « S.ix dons de L.autre en S.oi »
invites the spectator to penetrate the S.tructures
to experience a spatial fusion between one S.elf
and one S.pace. Hanged at the summits of the S.tructures
a series of S.culptures symbolize gifts inside their boxes
and crystallize S.ix L.inks :
naissance - L.ien maternel
enfance - L.ien émotionnel
transcendance - L.ien personnel
descendance - L.ien éternel
ascendance - L.ien paternel
alliance - L.ien S.L.
